Musician k. beta exhibits paintings after two decades

In Greece, musician K. Beta is presenting his paintings in an exhibition titled “Only the Coastline Remains” at the MOMus. Museum of Contemporary Art, as part of the 61st Dimitria festival.

For many, K. Beta is known for his music, but he first began as a painter, studying the art form in Melbourne. The exhibition features oil paintings created over the last decade, curated by Thodoris Markoglou with artistic direction from Thoula Misirloglou. K.

Beta explained that the exhibition’s title and central theme revolve around an “unachievable promise,” which he describes as something that will never happen, like a deep connection between two people who cannot be together. He views paintings as a way to preserve a moment or a perspective, offering a small step towards creation amidst paradox. Water, seas, rivers, and bodies of water, dominates his paintings. K.

Beta sees water as existing between memory and reality, holding a sense of anticipation, and sometimes evoking a nostalgic feeling of remembering something never experienced. He also paints landscapes and figures that lack specific details, preferring viewers to fill in the missing pieces with their own imagination, creating images from memories and fragments of past experiences. K. Beta believes painting offers something that immediate visual media cannot, resistance to the rapid production and consumption of images.

He spends considerable time on each piece, and in his paintings, the process of creation remains visible, showing decisions, hesitations, and empty spaces. He has painted for personal enjoyment for years, finding it a calming and self-reflective practice, and decided to share his work publicly with the encouragement of a friend.
