Police in Nigeria receive buses to ease commute home

Olatunji Rilwan Disu, the Inspector-General of Police in Nigeria, provided buses to transport police officers to and from work.

For years, officers finishing their shifts in Abuja would gather near Police Headquarters, seeking affordable transportation home, often waiting for unofficial “along vehicles.” Disu noticed this hardship while serving as Assistant Inspector-General of Police, observing officers stranded after long workdays. After becoming Inspector-General, Disu acted on this observation by deploying newly purchased buses to provide free transportation for officers.

This initiative aimed to address a long-standing welfare issue, as other government agencies had provided similar services for their personnel while police officers relied on unpredictable and often expensive options. The buses have already begun to reduce crowds of officers waiting for transport, saving them money and time, and improving morale. The Inspector-General’s action is seen as a demonstration of humane leadership, recognizing that personnel welfare impacts efficiency and professionalism within the Nigeria Police Force.
