The Ministry of National Education in Niger handed over 33 construction sites to contractors to build 225 classrooms in the Zinder region.
This initiative is part of the Niger LIRE Project, which receives financial support from the International Development Association, a member of the World Bank Group. The project aims to improve educational quality and learning conditions across the region. Project officials and municipal authorities inspected the locations between October 20 and 21, 2026.
The construction will target primary schools, a Franco-Arabic school, and a secondary college. The sites are spread across various communes, including Garagoumsa, Ichirnawa, Kantché, Dan Barto, Bandé, Koléram, Gouchi, Gouna, Tanout, Ollelewa, and Kélé. In the city of Zinder, the project covers four urban communes. The construction plans include more than just classrooms. At primary schools, workers will build blocks of two classrooms along with offices, multi-functional rooms, latrines, guard housing, flagpoles, water points, and incinerators.
At the Barma Mustapha college, the project includes a laboratory, a library, an administrative block, and housing for the director and guard. Contractors have a deadline of two and a half months for primary school works and four months for college works. The delegated administrator of the City of Zinder, Issoufou Mamane, stated that these works should reduce the difficulties caused by a lack of school infrastructure.
He urged the companies to follow technical standards and maintain a high quality of materials to ensure the durability of the buildings.
