Sweden begins prosecuting psychological abuse

Police in the Skåne region of Sweden, including 20 in Malmö and 2 in Helsingborg, have begun prosecuting psychological abuse after it became a crime in July. Investigators at Malmö police report receiving 55 reports under the new law as of mid-September.

Previously, officers investigated stories of constant insults, control, and isolation within close relationships but lacked the legal framework to punish the perpetrators.

Susanna Ramlid of Malmö police stated that being able to prosecute this behavior demonstrates that society does not accept such actions in relationships.
