Educator brings school to remote Tamil Nadu hamlet

Padmini, an 82-year-old educator working with My School Satya Surabhi, established a school in a tribal hamlet near Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu, India, in 2024.

She and teachers began by teaching children about hygiene and nutrition to build trust with families before introducing academic subjects. The “School on Wheels” initiative started with approximately 25 children and has since expanded to help over 50 first-generation learners. Following the program, 20 to 25 children transitioned to full-time schooling.
