Assam celebrates Zubeen Garg, family seeks answers

In Assam, India, Garima Garg, the wife of the late singer Zubeen Garg, spoke publicly as her community marked the first anniversary of his death with a three-day Zubeen Divas celebration.

The event, held at Zubeen Kshetra in Kamarkuchi, included music, prayers, and cultural performances honoring the popular artist who died in Singapore on September 19, 2025, at age 52.

Garima Garg described seeing her husband’s spirit in the diverse crowd attending the celebration, noting that people came together regardless of background and belief. She believes this unity reflects the inclusive Assam Zubeen Garg had hoped to create, and that fans are keeping his values alive. She emphasized that the community chose to celebrate his life rather than mourn his passing, highlighting his dedication to creativity and positivity.

Zubeen Garg reportedly possessed a unique ability to transform personal hardship into artistic expression. Garima explained that he believed energy could not be destroyed, only changed, and she feels his presence now exists within the many people who admired him. Musicians including Salim Merchant and Kunal Ganjawala joined the tributes, demonstrating the widespread respect for the singer.

However, alongside the celebration, Garima Garg also stated that her family continues to seek justice and a full understanding of the circumstances surrounding Zubeen’s death.
