Latin America strengthens pandemic preparedness

Jarbas Barbosa, director of the Pan American Health Organization (OPS), stated that Latin America is now better prepared to face a pandemic than it was before 2020.

Prior to the pandemic, only the United States and Canada had widespread surveillance capabilities in the Americas. Now, 30 countries in the region participate in a monitoring network coordinated by OPS. This network allows Latin American nations to respond more effectively to future health threats.
