Ignacio Buse supports family’s football club while competing

Ignacio Buse, a Peruvian tennis player, supports Cienciano, a football club from Cusco, Peru, and follows his cousin Matías Succar, the team’s leading scorer.

Buse comes from a family with deep roots in the Cusco region and a history connected to the founding of Cienciano. His grandfather, Gastón Acurio Velarde, studied at Colegio Nacional de Ciencias, the same school where Cienciano was founded in 1901, and instilled values of excellence in his family.

Buse identifies with Universitario, another Peruvian football club, but closely follows Cienciano’s matches, particularly in the Copa Sudamericana tournament. He wished he could attend Cienciano’s quarterfinal match against Montevideo City Torque from Uruguay, but is preparing for a Copa Davis match between Peru and Paraguay. The Buse family’s connection to Cienciano extends beyond the school’s shared history. Family members jokingly refer to the team’s red color and their own red hair.

Buse recently honored his grandfather, who passed away at age 96, acknowledging the lasting impact of his legacy. Both his grandfathers were accomplished athletes and his uncle is a renowned chef representing Peruvian cuisine internationally.
