School access to water and sanitation improves globally

Between 2015 and 2025, more schools worldwide gained access to basic water, sanitation, and hygiene services as the global school-age population grew. The Joint Monitoring Programme (JMP) reported that basic drinking water coverage in schools rose from 67% to 78% during this period. Basic sanitation services increased from 67% to 77% and basic hygiene access improved from 59% to 72%.

The world’s school-age population increased by over 100 million people, from 1.85 billion to 1.96 billion, during the same ten years.
