Rare bird returns to Ivorian forest after decade

Researchers in Côte d’Ivoire’s Taï National Park observed a Ghana cuckooshrike in June, a bird not seen for more than 13 years.

The Ghana cuckooshrike lives in the Upper Guinean rainforest of West Africa, a habitat shrinking due to logging and farming. This rediscovery demonstrates the importance of protecting areas like Taï National Park from threats including mining and poaching.

The Search for Lost Birds partnership listed the bird, contributing to this finding through collaboration with West African researchers and the team’s expertise.
