Ethiopia unifies public services with digital platform

In Ethiopia, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed launched MESOB, a digital platform that consolidates government services to improve access for citizens across the country.

Previously, people had to visit multiple offices and navigate different processes to receive interconnected public services. MESOB aims to create a single digital gateway, reducing fragmentation and simplifying interactions with government institutions. The initiative is part of a larger digital transformation in Ethiopia, focused on making public institutions more efficient and responsive.

The country is also expanding digital identity programs through Fayda and increasing access to digital payments to support this shift. MESOB’s development extends beyond the technology itself, representing a fundamental change in how Ethiopia views digital government. Ethiopia presented MESOB internationally at events like HUAWEI Connect in Shanghai, demonstrating its progress in integrated digital public services.

As the country’s digital economy grows, with initiatives like the 5 Million Coders program, MESOB provides a framework for a more coordinated and digitally-driven public sector.
